They won the a-ha grant of NOK 1,000,000 on Friday night. Well done to them, and many, many thanks to everyone who voted for Hanne.

The famous Norwegian pop band a-ha is retiring, but before they leave they are giving away 4 grants of a million NOK ($150 000/£100 000/€125 000) to 4 Norwegian artists. A jury has come down to 8 nominees and it is now up to the public to decide which 4 artists who will get the grant.

The first grant winner is revealed this Friday and Hanne Hukkelberg is in the competition against the talented band Shining.

So – we need all the help we can get!

Rooftop Films and Sweden’s Music Doc festival present a special screening of music and documentary films from Scandinavia, plus a live performance by Norway’s extraordinary Hanne Hukkelberg. Head on up to the roof at Open Road Rooftop this Friday for a special presentation of Knut Eric Jensen fantastic documentary, Cool & Crazy, a portrait of the dedicated members of Norway’s Berlevag Male Choir. Knut Erik Jensen’s thoroughly charming docu-musical – dubbed the ‘Arctic Buena Vista Social Club’ – has been a smash hit in its native Norway and a favourite at film festivals the world over. It tells the story of the distinguished male voice choir of Berlevåg, one of Norway’s most exposed and northerly fishing villages (and the setting for Isak Dinesen’s ‘Babette’s Feast’).

Prior to the film, Hanne Hukkelberg will perform her mesmerizing music live and solo.
